Wallpaper Calculator

Maison Bonami offers 2 wallpaper formats:

The unit strip*:

  • Dimensions: 0.50 x 2.60 m
  • Covered area: 1.30 m2

Hanging the strips is easy: no matching is necessary because the patterns occupy 100% of the width. You just have to make sure to hang the strips edge to edge, aligning the pattern!

* A strip of wallpaper placed vertically on a wall or partition is called a “strip”.

The 10 meter roll*:

  • Dimensions: 0.5 x 10 m
  • Covered area: 5 m2
  • Corresponds to approximately 3.8 unit strips.

For rolls: the installation must take into account a connection whose size corresponds to that of the pattern.

Don't underestimate the number of strips or rolls you'll need for your project. When measuring the areas you'll be wallpapering, always remember to add 10 cm to the height for trim (top and bottom cuts).

Measure the total width of the area to be wallpapered, without deducting windows and other openings from your calculations. Also take a 10 cm margin into your calculations.

Calculation tool to download

While waiting to develop a calculation page especially for you, we provide you with a calculation tool (Excel format) which will allow you to calculate the number of rolls required (valid only for patterned wallpapers):

The calculation in detail

The number of strips is calculated as follows:

  1. Make sure the surface to be wallpapered does not exceed 2.60 meters in height. Otherwise, you will need a roller.
  2. Divide the width of the surface to be wallpapered (including + 10 cm margin to your dimensions) by the width of a strip (0.5 meters)
  3. Round the result up to the nearest whole number for the exact number of strips needed.

For example :

  • I want to wallpaper a wall 2.40 meters high and 3 meters wide.
  • I add 10 centimeters in height and width to my measurements, giving a surface area of 2.50 x 3.10 meters to be wallpapered.
  • The height is well below 2.60 m. I can therefore use the individual strips for my project.
  • Regarding the number of strips, I therefore need 3.1 / 0.5 = 6.2, or 7 strips to complete my project.

The number of rolls is calculated as follows:

    1. Divide the width of the surface to be wallpapered (+ 10 cm margin) by the width of a roll (0.5 meters). Round up to the nearest whole number, and you will then get the number of strips required.
    2. Calculate the height of each strip by adding the height of the surface, the 10 cm margin and the height of the connection.
    3. Divide the roll length by the drop height calculated in step 2 to find the number of drops per roll. Round down to the nearest whole number.
    4. Divide the number of strips needed by the number of strips per roll. Round up to find out how many rolls you need!

    For example :

    • I want to wallpaper a wall 2.40 meters high and 3 meters wide.
    • The pattern (the connection) measures 50 cm.
    • The number of strips is 3.10 / 0.5 = 6.2, or 7 strips.
    • Each strip should measure 2.4 + 0.1 + 0.05 = 2.55 cm
    • There will therefore be 10 / 2.55 = 3.9, or 3 strips per roll.
    • In total, I therefore need 7 / 3 = 2.33 or 3 rolls to complete my project.

Now let's compare the different options:

For the same project (papering a wall 2.40 meters high by 3 meters wide), I have the following options:

      • In strips (simplified installation): 7 strips (€65 per strip) – total: €455 incl. VAT
      • Traditional (expert installation): 3 rolls (€140) – total: €420 incl. VAT
