What wallpaper for a bedroom?
There's nothing better than wallpaper to create a personalized look in your bedroom. But which one should you choose? What color? What size? Where? Here's Maison Bonami's advice to help you choose.
The different types of wallpaper
Panoramic wallpaper
If you want an immersive decoration, for a spectacular effect that plunges you into an XXL setting, opt for panoramic wallpaper.
When looking for wallpaper for an adult bedroom or a child's bedroom , panoramic decor is ideal for dramatizing your room. The spectacular effect is guaranteed. : no need for additional decorative objects to complete your ambiance, the wallpaper is enough in itself.
Patterned wallpaper
Patterned wallpaper allows you to repeat a decor endlessly.
On the other hand, there is no question of wallpapering all the walls of a room: for a modern and trendy effect, limit yourself to one wall, or even a section of wall (for example at the head of the bed).
Very easy to use, patterned wallpaper is modular and can cover any type of surface... from a small section of wall inside a wardrobe to the XXL version on the wall.
Wallpaper patterns
Again, you have a choice!
A word of advice: listen to your desires . Wallpaper can easily be combined with any type of decor: Scandinavian, country chic, vintage, classic, bohemian, or art deco…
The plant touch
If you want a touch of nature and a plant-filled atmosphere in your bedroom, choose floral wallpaper . In color, to liven up a somewhat monotonous decor or to highlight strong elements (lamp, bedspread, etc.), or in black and white, for an incomparable graphic effect .
Graphic wallpaper
For a designer and modern style, you can choose a geometric pattern in a vintage, Scandinavian or Art Deco style.
Wallpaper for girls or wallpaper for boys?
For wallpaper in a girl's bedroom, plant or floral patterns are very popular . Those that combine plants and animals will delight both girls and boys and will bring a softness conducive to daydreaming.
For wallpaper in a boy's bedroom, animal motifs are the most popular ... and will be just as popular as superheroes (and more aesthetic too ;-)
As for the graphic and geometric patterns, they will be suitable for both babies and young teenagers and will allow them to grow at the same time as your child .
What color for the wallpaper?
You will find all possible colors depending on the style you want to give to your room.
If your room is on the smaller side, choose white or light-colored paint with a pattern that complements the color: a white or light-colored background with light patterns. If, however, you prefer very dense patterns and bold colors, indulge yourself while making sure to use it in small touches.
For a seaside atmosphere, opt for shades of blue.
Green will be perfect to bring a touch of nature.
The black and white will bring a graphic and very designer touch.
Pastel or pink tones will be perfect for a romantic style.
Where to hang wallpaper?
The headboard: the cozy nest
There are several options available to you for hanging wallpaper in your bedroom and enjoying sweet dreams. You can:- Cover the entire wall behind your bed with a panoramic decor or even patterned wallpaper, creating a cozy sleeping area.
- Partially wallpaper this wall , only wallpapering a width slightly larger than your bed, up to the bedside tables for example.
- Wallpaper the bottom of the wall (about 1m high) to create a base. This technique allows you to reduce the height of the walls when you have high ceilings, thus creating a nice cozy nest. Tip: You can also create a base, conversely, by wallpapering the top of the wall and leaving the bottom of the wall painted.
The unique strip: the decorative touch
If you want to complete your ambiance with a decorative touch, then opt for the strip format:- Placed symmetrically behind the bedside tables, 2 strips of wallpaper will create a frame around your bed .
- On a wall, behind a console, the strip will create rhythm in the layout of your room.
- In a child's bedroom, one or two strips of wallpaper will create a play area , covered on a wall behind a teepee or a toy chest.
And in small rooms?
Do you have a tiny bedroom and think wallpaper isn't for you? Think again! Identical colored walls prevent spaces from standing out and make the room appear monotonous. On the other hand, adding a different rhythm to one wall will make the space appear larger, thanks to an optical effect.
If the walls are already very busy, and you have a large wardrobe or an imposing dressing room, you can modernize it by covering the doors with geometric wallpaper for a designer style, or plant wallpaper for a more natural touch.
When choosing a pattern, if you have a low ceiling, choose a small floral or plant motif. Avoid large patterns and overly bold colors.
Vertical stripes create a trompe l'oeil effect , increasing the height of the room, but don't choose them too wide.
Contrary to popular belief, patterns with character are ideal for small spaces because they create an optical illusion. They help to enlarge the space by giving it depth.
For the color of the wallpaper , if you want your small room to appear larger, choose a white or light-colored paint combined with a pattern that matches the color: white background or light color and light patterns.
If, despite everything, you prefer very dense patterns and strong colors, indulge yourself while making sure to use it in small touches.
